The winner of the S/S11 Look Book Giveaway talks to us about family friendly holidays in Lake Como, here you can see her daughter modelling just some of her fantastic AlexandAlexa summer holiday haul.
“Peggy is a mother of two and author of ‘Paul & Paula’ a kid’s design and lifestyle blog. Originally from Berlin and now based in Amsterdam, Peggy is always on the lookout for kid’s style inspiration that goes beyond “pink, princess style and teddy bears”. The blog has an international focus and is full of her original inspirational images.
Lake Como is fantastic and one of the best places you can go when travelling with kids.
Firstly because you can fly to Milano Malpensa (which means the chances are high you will find a direct flight), from there the lake is just 30min drive by car. [Peggy and her family found flights on KLM]. We stayed in a tiny village called Griante and rented an apartment overlooking the lake. There are lots of hotels along the lake if you prefer. [Peggy booked a family friendly holiday house through holiday-rentals.co.uk, see her luxury holiday house pick]
We took a cute little train that is running every 30min and gives you a good first idea of where you are, the kids loved it.
[The Trombetta Express runs between Menaggio and Tremezzo stopping at various points along the way including; Menaggio Lido, Villa Linda, Hotel Britannia, Grand Hotel Cadenabbia, Villa Carlotta, Grand Hotel Tremezzo and Hotel Bazzoni.]
We took the boat/ ferry to cross the lake and visit a few tiny villages there. It is just a 15min ride each time but a very beautiful one and again the kids loved it. If you go to Varenna you will find a playground just right next to the boat stop.
We went to Switzerland. We visited Lugano and the Alpenrose Chocolate Museum. It is just 45min by car from Griante. Como, Lenno, Bellagio, Chiasso, Porlezza, Menaggio…. there are lots of lovely little cities and villages that are waiting to be discovered near by.We had two playgrounds within walking distance from the apartment and found many more when we were out, so you will definitely always find a spot to let the kids go wild a bit.
Of course we had a lot of Ice cream and pizza. Pasta of all sorts and “plat du jour”, it is well known, but you will really have no difficulties to find a place to sit down and have a good family lunch or dinner. Lots of places offered high chairs.
So yes, all together I think it is a beautiful area that fits the bill for a family holiday in all directions… not to forget that mummy can do some nice shopping here and there as well…
Please do not hesitate to ask any questions you might have in the comment section.
Thank you and happy holidays everyone!
