SS11 Kids’ Fashion Trends

With most of us scrambling to prepare ourselves and our children for the coming cold, the world of fashion has moved on, sharing the trends of Spring Summer 2011 in four fashion capitals around the world.

On these grown up catwalk, the rules of SS11 fashion have been set, translating to kidswear for the same season. We picked the top trends from the grown up catwalk to give you a sneak peak at what is coming when the weather warms up once again.

WONDERLAND WHITES: For womens’ wear, almost every designer included a neutral palette in their collection, with lovely rich white fabrics and feminine classics like skirts, bows, ruffles and pleats. This girly girl look can be seen all over the SS11 collections of the world’s best kids’ brands, from Roberto Cavalli and Chloe to more casual lines like Scotch & Soda.

TANGERINE: Tangerine is this coming season’s juiciest colour, with runway looks from Marc by Marc Jacobs, Rebecca Taylor and Stella McCartney showcasing this vibrant and happy hue. In the land of kidswear, this same colour trend comes into in play for both boys and girls, with tasty tangerine offerings from the likes of Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren, Sonia Rykeil and Dior Kids.

MINI GATSBY: Designers like Viktor & Rolf, Hermes and John Galliano, seemed to have taken their inspiration from the fashions of the 1920s with cuffed, pleated trousers, loose fitting sleeves, crisp shirting, trilby’s and fedoras.

BRIGHT FLORALS: It wouldn’t be Spring Summer if there weren’t any floral patterns amongst the collections, and D&G, Jil Sander and Erdem seem to have committed the most to the trend, with last season’s liberty prints being replaced with bright florals in full bloom.

Get The Look: Kingston Rossdale

Kingston Rossdale must have inherited his parents’ dominant ‘best dressed’ gene, as the handsome little rock star has been a trendsetter since birth, and anyone interested in kids’ fashion knows it.

We came across yet another great picture of Kingston in some rather familiar clothing while searching on Google for some historical information on the UGG brand, and,  since we have all the elements for this London friendly outfit in stock, we thought we ought to share them with you in case your little one likes to emulate that ‘Laidback London Look’ Kingston pulls off so well.

Scotch & Soda

Since 1985, Amsterdam based fashion brand Scotch & Soda has been expanding steadily. Their clothing, for both adults and children, is the definition of fusion fashion, mixing vintage and varsity to create a unique line of well made clothing.

The brand began, over 20 yeras ago, with a casual line of menswear, followed by a collection of women’s clothing, before adding their first children’s line, Scotch Shrunk, for boys aged 4-12 years.

The Scotch Shrunk line for boys has the typical Scotch & Soda character: “No frills, no fuss” and is an exact replica of the menswear line, the only difference is, it is sized for children instead of adults, hence its nick name: ‘Shrunk in Amsterdam’!

To add to their empire, in January 2011, Scotch & Soda introduced an additional kidswear collection, Scotch R’Belle, their first girl’s line. The 120 piece collection shares the same laidback vibe as the Scotch Shrunk Boys line, but with much more sophistication and femininity. The introductory collection features fabrics of sorbet pastels, admiral stripes and urban safari prints, as well as stylish t-shirts and jeans with unique embellishments and detailing.

The company partakes in minimal traditional marketing, saying “the clothes do the talking”, Scotch & Soda wants people to love their clothes and have fun wearing them, nothing more, nothing less.

Their laidback motto matches their laidback style, with everything from tropical prints, florals and mechanic style shirts, to posh striped jumpers, cardigans and preppy varsity tops.

Scotch & Soda’s unique collection of affordable clothing has created a DNA that is sought after worldwide and is perfect for kids who like a little bit of individuality in their wardrobe.
