Eco Recycling Game

Recently, two of the team members at Alexandalexa.com went to visit some friends in Fulham and ended up taking part in the Peterson family games night with Mum Greta, Dad James, 7 year old Jasper and 5 year old Giselle.

The Eco conscious couple had bought their children Plan Toy’s Eco Recycling Game, which teaches children about recycling, environmental awareness and social responsibility.

Sounds a bit serious, but it is all in good fun. To win the game, you’ve got to be the first person with no recycling tokens left…sounds quite simple, but amazingly, we all lost to the youngest contender, 5 year old Giselle.

The wooden recycling game set includes a dice, a canvas game mat, 4 recycled bins, 4 figures, and 16 pieces of recyclable waste tokens, all of which are made with earth friendly materials.

Greta and James ordered the game from www.kangarooboo.com, where you can purchase it for around £15.00.

Let us know if you have tried the game and what you and the kids think of it!

Great Games: Mancala

Mancala, is a great family board game played around the world. The name is derived from the Arabic work ‘naqala’

which means “to move” and the game itself originated in Ethiopia in the 6th century.

Mancala is the most popular name for the game; however, it is known by a number of other names including

“sowing”, “count-and-capture”, Kalah, Oware, Congkak, Omweso, Ünee tugaluulakh, Bao, Sungka and Igisoro.

To play, each player places a certain number of seeds in each of the pits on the board. A player may count their stones

to plot the game and when their turn comes they must remove all the seeds from a pit and place one in each of the

following pits all around the board.

The object of the game is to capture more stones than your opponent so that their your side of the board is empty.

The game often made of wood with various colourful objects used for the seeds.
