Junior Gaultier

It only makes sense that the infamous ‘enfant terrible’ of Paris fashion, Jean Paul Gaultier, enter into the world of kids fashion. And as a luxury online fashion retailer for children, it is equally as sensible that we carry his line here at Alexandalexa.com.

Seeing a line like this, all of us in the office agree, we missed out on a lot as tots. With our own childhood wardrobes limited to our local department store goods, none of us were anywhere near as stylish as a Junior Gautier child when we were small.

The Junior Gaultier line follows its adult counterpart with avant-garde designs for little ones that like their preppy kit to be both unusual and playful.

Always the naughty child, Jean Paul Gaultier skipped school in his early years to hang out at his grandmother’s house amongst her high society friends, where he spent the day drawing imaginary high fashion collections for them while he eavesdropped on their gossip.

After leaving school in 1970, Gaultier went straight on to work for the house of Pierre Cardin, having never visited a design school, he obtained his position based on the sketches he had drawn at his grandmother’s house on his days absent school (but let’s not tell our little ones that bit).

In 1976 Jean Paul Gaultier’s first collection graced the runway and caused major shock with its unconventional models and unique designs. Gaultier’s artistic designs became a part of pop culture and easily translated to the stage, theatre and film, granting Gaultier endless opportunities.

Within his career, he has designed tour outfits for Madonn, Kylie Minogue and French recording artist Mylene Farmer and also creating cast wardrobes for box office hits like the Fifth Element.

The recently launched Junior Gaultier collection is Jean Paul’s first kidswear line, though he has used the ‘Junior Gaultier’ name before for a youth line that he designed in 1988.

This season’s Junior Gaultier line has six main themes, typical of Jean Paul’s playful character: Pink & Black, Tartan, Boxing, Sequins, Stripes and Faux Fur.
