Kid by 3.1 Phillip Lim

For a man with a brand that has only been around for 5 years, Phillip Lim has been a busy boy.

As creative director and co-founder of 3.1 Phillip Lim, his brand has already expanded from just women’s wear – into men’s, kids’, accessories, shoe and underpinnings, – basically one new offering a year for every year he has been designing under this eponymous brand – making him one of the most talented and successful young designers in the industry today.

Here at Alexandalexa.com, the collection we love the most of Lim’s, is his children’s wear line (of course!), Kid by 3.1 Phillip Lim.

As we are carrying his collection for the first time this season, all of us here who are fans of the women’s wear line were a little over excited when the pieces began arriving a few weeks ago and ripped the boxes open (carefully of course), to inspect the new arrivals.

What we found was pure luxury; each item we ordered from AW10 Kid by 3.1 Phillip Lim is flawless. The contemporary pieces are fabulous and feature versions of the popular items in his womenswear collection. With impeccable tailoring and attire that combines dressy and casual, Kid by 3.1 Phillip Lim is the perfect kidswear line. Simple patterns allow your child to make just enough of a statement and the neutral colours of the collection make it easy to create outfits (I can almost hear a communal sigh of relief from parents) – his collection is in essense, a Capsule Wardrobe, with each piece easily paired with all the other peices of the collection, Gok would appprove.

You would think a man with this kind of effortless success and a line full of perfect attire would be a lifelong fashionisto, but this is not the case.

Born in Thailand in 1972 to Chinese immigrants who then fled to southern California to escape Cambodia’s civil war, Lim had never planned on becoming a designer; in fact, it wasn’t until he picked up a weekend job at Barneys in Beverly Hills that Lim had his career epiphany. Despite having no idea what fashion design entailed, he secured an internship with Katayone Adeli, an arrangement that eventually turned into a permanent position as part of their design team.

After working with Katayone Adeli for a number of years, Lim, then 31, decided to launch his first collection with business partner and friend, Wen Zhou.

When Lim debuted his initial womenswear collection in 2005, it was an instant success, both critically and commercially, earning him numerous awards and nominations from the fashion elite.

As such a young brand (and a young man), there is no telling what Lim will get up to next. But whatever it is, with Lim’s past luck, there is no doubt that it will be a great success, all we can do is set our Google Alerts, and hope that we are among the first to find out.
